Training Job Candidates with Gamification

Online games date back to the 1970s. Today, millions of people from around world log in daily to participate in all kinds of games from first-person shooters, to real-time strategy, to multiplayer online battles and console games. It’s estimated that the online gaming industry took in $35 billion in 2017. So online gaming is very popular.

With many of today’s online games, players are incentivized to participate more, stay on longer, earn points, or are rewarded for higher levels of experience. They earn badges, increase levels, receive rewards, all for increased participation.

While some online gaming has seen cyberbullying and sexual harassment, research has also shown that gamification has seen some positive aspects of individuals for learning by promoting competition and reward.

Maintenance Best believes that employers really need trained jobs candidates. Trained job candidates have safer records, need less supervision, and have a positive impact on operations. At Maintenance Best, we’ve combined the positive aspects of online gaming and gamification with the powerful aspects of Moodle to build an online learning environment.

Moodle is an online learning platform that touts over 70 million users. Its purpose is “to provide educators, administrators and learners with a single robust, secure and integrated system to create personalized learning environments.”

Besides having a group of courses job candidates can take in things like leadership, specific job training, and general skills training, Maintenance Best allows trainees to advance in levels, earn badges, and compete with other trained job candidates for test scores.

Each course has a Maintenance Best produced video along with supplemental video material to train and educate the job candidate. Candidates are given quizzes and a final test covering the main aspects of the subject to reinforce learning. Some courses include things like crossword puzzles, drag & drop boxes, or games to enhance the learning experience.
